Now we go to another long-term care facility where I worked. This time the pharmacist and I were working a Saturday alone and it was pretty busy. An order came in over the fax and in the doctor's handwriting, the order read: Levoxyl 125mcg once daily. The Levoxyl that we were using was in unit dose form and on the label of the unit dose container it read Levoxyl 0.125mg, which is equivalent to the dose mentioned above. Normally, this would not be a problem, but this particular Saturday was nothing but problems, and so was the nurse. About half an hour after the medication had been delivered to the facility I get a rabid phone call from the nurse. She berated me for
sending the wrong dose and gave me a lecture on how I could have hurt the patient. I told her that I am a technician and don't get paid to take her sort of abuse and handed the phone to the pharmacist. To make a long story short, he spent half an hour trying to convince her that the two measurements are the same. He finally had to get her boss on the phone, who immediately realized what was going on and had to explain it to her. True story.
